Liv and Holden share a special moment as they rehearse for an upcoming performance. Meanwhile, Reggie ditches Parker for a chance to play basketball with Maddie.
|Frustrated with Parker's excessive interest in science, and his lack thereof, Reggie ditches Parker for a chance to play basketball with Maddie, who is more than willing to give him a try, since Willow spends a lot of time with "The Dream", and Diggie spends it "being a heartbreaking jerk."
At Ridgewood High, Andie boasts about her date with Holden, which went from a picnic at a local observatory, to the pit of a race track where one of her brothers was driving at. Holden himself approaches them and reveals that he is suffering from some lingering temporary hearing loss. Andie runs off to brag about their date to Willow, and while she does so, Holden reveals that his date was a disaster, and he's beginning to question their relationship. Later, Willow comes back with Andie to reveal that The Dream gets invited to "Nimbus at Night," an upcoming talk show hosted by Johnny Nimbus. At a rehearsal of the aforementioned show, we find that Johnny's sidekick is a parrot-puppet named "Joanne Squawkers," and the woman who operates the puppet quits before the show because she find it demeaning. Joey, who is an intern on the set of the show in order to make himself look good on his college application, is drafted to take her place, and gladly accepts the offer. Though his voice is not as feminine as Nimbus originally believes, he's still accepted as the puppeteer.
Back at home, Maddie is impressed with Reggie's skills at the hoops. Parker looks on from the kitchen window, and Karen who realizes how lonely he is urges him to apologize to him. Against his better judgment he does so, but Reggie doesn't accept it. Later that night however, Reggie finds that when it comes to basketball, Maddie is far too fanatical, and Pete finds Parker watching them from the kitchen window as well.
Back at school, Holden is in the music class where he sings "True Love" on the piano, as Liv did in Prom-A-Rooney. Liv walks in during his rehearsal and inadvertently knocks over some music stands, which gets his attention. Holden tells her that the song has been stuck in his head since the prom, and tries to get her opinion of his cover. Liv decides to join him during the song in a duet, and the two almost kiss each other at the end of the song, until Willow interrupts them. Not seeing what they were about to do, Andie overhears the song, and is so impressed with their performance, she urges them to repeat it on Nimbus at Night. Willow encourages Andie to take Liv's place while she drags her home.
At the Rooney household, Willow demands that Maddie talk Liv out of falling for Holden. She tells her about their duet, and swears there were "cartoon hearts and unicorns circling around their heads." Liv admits to Maddie that her crush has been far too difficult to suppress. Willow gets far too agitated over her crush, and Maddie urges her to lighten up on her twin. Prior to introducing the band, Johnny and "Joanne" have a debate over whether cake is better than pie. When the band is on stage, Johnny assumes that Liv and Holden are a couple within the band, and Liv, Andie, and Willow deny it. Instead Andie boast about her relationship with Holden, but when he asks him if she's the love of his life, he can't admit that she isn't. Andie realizes he's breaking up with her on stage and runs off in tears, before Liv runs after her in order to console her, and Holden chases them both. Willow stays behind, believing this is her only chance to be on television. Later on during the show, Johnny suggests that Willow sing on behalf of the rest of the band, but she's a bit hesitant to do so, until he reveals that Joey is the puppeteer for Joanne Squawkers. Joey, who had been squawking about how much of a disaster the show is becoming, tries to get away, but Johnny drags him back. Willow reveals that she had the exact same scenario on her "vision board" and the scene is later cut to Willow and Joey's horrible rendition of "True Love," with Johnny Nimbus on the piano.
Liv arrives home and tells Karen that Andie is dealing with her pain by going to the scrapyard and welding three minivans together and turning them into a monster truck. Just then Holden arrives to talk to Liv and Karen leaves the room apparently to give them some privacy. Holden confess that he has been in love with her the whole time, but he wasn't sure she felt the same way about him. However, when Andie asked him to the prom, he accepted her offer, but as they spent more time with each other he realized they had nothing in common. Liv admits she has been reciprocating those feelings, but turns him down (or at least holds him back) in order to preserve her friendship with the already heartbroken Andie. Disappointed, he leaves, and Karen rushes in admits she was listening all along, giving her heartbroken daughter a consoling hug.
The next day at the backyard basketball court of the Rooney household, Reggie is exhausted from his marathon one-on-one game with Maddie. Just then Parker arrives on the scene with the science project they were working on earlier that week, a pair of rocket-powered sneakers, which he offers to Reggie. Returning to the game, Reggie uses those shoes to defeat his older sister. Maddie tries to call him on a technicality, but he and Parker blow her off. Parker invites him to go with him to dig some random hole for an unexplained reason, and Reggie uses the shoes to blast off into the sky once again, only this time taking Parker by his side.
